Support Classes

At Murwillumbah East Public School, we are proud to offer three dedicated Support Classes designed to meet the individual learning needs of students with disabilities and additional learning requirements. These classes provide a nurturing, inclusive, and structured environment where every child is supported to achieve their personal best. Our experienced and compassionate teachers work closely with specialist staff to deliver tailored educational programs that promote academic, social, emotional, and physical development.

These classes are suitable for students who have a confirmed disability diagnosis and require substantial adjustments to their learning environment. Placements are based on assessed need and availability, and are determined through a separate enrolment process managed in partnership with the Department of Education. This process ensures that students receive the right level of support in the most appropriate setting.

Support Classes are smaller in size than mainstream classrooms, allowing for greater individual attention and customised learning plans. Our classes have a maximum of seven students, supported by a specialised teacher and a full-time Student Learning Support Officer.

The daily routine includes a blend of explicit instruction, hands-on learning, life skills development, and opportunities for social interaction. Learning is tailored to each student’s abilities and goals, with a strong focus on building independence, confidence, and meaningful participation in the school community.

Students in our Support Classes also take part in school-wide activities and events, promoting inclusion and a strong sense of belonging.

Families interested in Support Class placement at Murwillumbah East Public School are encouraged to contact the school to discuss their child’s needs and learn more about the application process. We are committed to working closely with families to ensure a smooth and supportive transition into our school community.
