Facilities and resources
Murwillumbah East Public School has a range of learning spaces and resources that support every student’s learning. Each area is designed to help students stay engaged, build confidence, and enjoy their school day. These facilities create opportunities for students to learn, play, and grow together.
Our school facilities
Classrooms
In 2025, Murwillumbah East has twelve classes, including three support classes. Our small class sizes create spacious, well-organised classrooms that encourage focused, collaborative learning. Each classroom is welcoming, well-resourced, and designed to support every student.

Kindergarten
Our Kindergarten classroom is a warm, welcoming space where young learners build the foundations for literacy, numeracy, and social skills. Through play-based learning and hands-on activities, students develop curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning in a supportive environment.

Lower Primary
Stage 1 classrooms (years 1 & 2) focus on building key literacy and maths skills through hands-on, engaging learning. Students develop confidence and work together in a supportive environment.

Upper Primary
Stages 2 & 3 (years 3-6), deepen their knowledge and skills through more independent and challenging learning. They focus on critical thinking, collaboration, and preparing for future academic success.

Student Support Unit (SSU)
Three support classrooms and the adjoining play space, cater to students with disabilities, providing personalised learning and tailored support and care. These classrooms offer a caring, inclusive environment where every student can thrive and grow, assessing a curriculum that suits their development and needs.
Library
Our new library is bright, well-resourced, and a welcoming space for all students. It’s open at lunchtimes, with every class visiting weekly for lessons and to borrow books.

Cultural Hub
Our Cultural Hub is a welcoming, beautiful space for all students. Classes K–6 visit weekly for Geography or History lessons, while Aboriginal students also join additional sessions to learn about Country, culture, art, and dance.

Hall
Our hall is a central gathering place for the whole school and community. It’s used for assemblies, special events, and weekly dance, music, and drama lessons. The space also hosts community activities, making it a vibrant hub of school life.

Outdoor learning spaces
Our spacious sports fields provide plenty of room for games, training, and outdoor learning. They’re used daily for sport, fitness, and play, as well as hosting school carnivals and community events.

Year 3-6 Play spaces
For Years 3–6, playtime is spent on the sports fields, undercover basketball court, volleyball court, multiple handball courts, and in garden areas

Forest Track
Our forest track winds through the trees at the back of the school, offering a natural space for adventure and learning. It’s used for bike riding, running, and sustainability programs, encouraging students to stay active while connecting with the environment.

Years K-2
Our play spaces give students plenty of room to explore, be active, and enjoy time with friends. The K–2 playground features fixed play equipment, a sandpit, veggie gardens, and open grassy areas.

Passive Play
Our Passive Play Space is a calm, welcoming area that is part of our Support Unit but open to all students. It offers passive games, quiet corners, and relaxed spaces where students can connect with friends or enjoy some downtime. This space provides a safe and inclusive environment for play at a slower pace.
Supported learning and Wellbeing
Supported learning and wellbeing are central to our school, shaping how we teach, care for, and guide our students. We create spaces where children feel safe, supported, and ready to learn, helping them build skills, strengthen relationships, and re-engage in learning with confidence.

Yelgun
Yelgun, meaning “sunshine,” is our dedicated wellbeing hub, designed to support social and emotional learning (SEL) and student connection. It is also open at lunchtimes, providing a calm space for students to enjoy downtime and recharge.

Learning Enrichment Hub
Our Learning Enrichment Hub provides targeted support in literacy and maths, ensuring every student can progress with confidence. It also offers extension opportunities for High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) students, challenging and inspiring them to achieve their personal best.

Veggie Gardens
Our veggie garden offers students a hands-on way to connect with natur, build teamwork skills, and learn about healthy eating. Caring for the garden promotes mindfulness, reduces stress, and supports overall wellbeing.
MEPS Building Upgrade Project
Planning is underway for construction of new permanent, flood resilient facilities at Murwillumbah East Public School.
This will include:
- New permanent classrooms
- New canteen
- New permanent specialist support classrooms
- Removal of demountable buildings
Examples of new facilities
These photos show new, flood resilient schools that have been built in the Northern Rivers region over the past few years. It is expected the MEPS build will be similar in size and design.
