Our extra-curricular highlights
Sporting Excellence
MEPS has a strong reputation for excellence in sports. Our sporting program commences in Kindergarten, where all students develop fundamental movement skills and positive teamwork. As they progress through their schooling, they engage in specific sports through our dedicated programs. Students are provided with opportunities to compete in regional events, frequently advancing to state and national levels.
Our school grounds feature a real-grass soccer field, bike 'pump track', basketball court, volleyball field, netball court, gaga pit, handball courts, and extensive grass playing areas. These facilities ensure our students have space to play, learn and compete in their chosen sports throughout their schooling.
Leisure Sports Yrs 3-6
MEPS has an extensive leisure sports program that operates in Term 3 each year. We offer traditional sports throughout the rest of the year, but in Term 3, students in Years 3-6 are offered a range of unique sports, including duathlon, circus skills, mountain bike riding, tennis, yoga, and fishing.
The leisure sports program offers many benefits to students. They learn teamwork and resilience while trying new activities and developing their physical skills. The program encourages outdoor exploration and appreciation for nature, providing a refreshing break from regular studies and an opportunity to try something new.
Creative and Performing arts
Creative and Performing Arts are an integral part of the educational journey for all students. We are proud to have a specialist performing arts teacher who teaches dance, music (including ukulele), and drama to all classes, enriching our students’ artistic experiences.
Our creative arts sessions are designed to inspire students, encouraging them to extend their imagination and technical skills in the arts. Our Art Show is a beautiful community event celebrating the students’ talent and achievements.
We have numerous dance troupes that perform at the district level. These are open for all students, with High Potential and Gifted students having additional opportunities.
Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM)
At MEPS, our STEM program is designed to foster creativity and innovation among students through hands-on learning experiences. We are proud to have a dedicated STEM lab attached to our library, which all classes access as part of their weekly program. This resource allows students to explore various STEM concepts in a collaborative environment.
Additionally, for our High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) students, we offer enriched opportunities as well as interest groups that cater to diverse STEM interests.
Aboriginal Education
Our school prides itself on our Aboriginal Education programs. Aboriginal perspectives, culture, language and the arts are deeply embedded into our programs.
The Deadlies, our Aboriginal Student group, engage in weekly sessions with our Aboriginal education teacher, exploring land, culture and community through storytelling, art, and traditional practices, including Bundjalung language. This enriches their learning and fosters belonging and respect for all cultures.
Our Deadly leaders further support the planning of school projects and represent our school at events and gatherings within our region.
Camps and Excursions
Each year, our camps and excursions give students exciting learning experiences beyond the classroom. Older students may attend Camp to Canberra or Sport and Recreation overnight camps, while younger students enjoy fun day excursions.
Many of these programs are offered at a subsidised cost, ensuring all students have the chance to take part, build confidence, and create lasting memories.
